My Mind and Contemplations

How does my mind work? I sometimes don’t know the answer to that myself! The thoughts I have, the kind of over-processing of any scenario I do in my brain are very bizarre at times. By profession…

My experience as a software engineer

I decided I wanted to become a web develop in 2015, I started taking simple html5 and css classes exploring what I wanted to do for my bachelors and fell in love with development. I decided to go to Dev Mountain to fast track my learning and to learn full stack development. I quickly fell in love with the creativity and logic of development. I love how there are endless possibilities to solve problems and new ways to do things coming out every day.

I got my first job in 2015 as a full stack web developer at marketing company called Tega Technologies Chatterspot. I was working with React on the front end, PHP on the backend, and SQL for the database. I had an amazing senior developer who encouraged me to learn as much as I could and he would spend as much time as needed to help me learn to the best of my abilities. After 8 months at Chatterspot, the company went under. And although I was very dissapointed, I learned so much in that 8 months that I quickly was able to get another full time job.

My second job was at Overstock inc. I was hired as a Front End Software Engineer working on their Club O rewards team. Overstock was a little different in the fact that there were over 70 front end developers, and I didn’t know most of them. Since the website was already created, most of what I did was fix bugs. It was at Overstock that I realized that I needed to create features for me to be happy in my job. I loved my team and I loved the environment, but creating features is what made me the most happy. I work in React and Redux on the front end and LESS for the styling. After a year of working at Overstock, I realized that I wasn’t happy fixing bugs all day and I was ready to find a new job that would let me create features.

I found my next job at WorkFront Inc in Lehi as a full stack Software Engineer. I work in React, Redux, Typescript, and Emotion js for the Front End, Java for the Backend, and SQL for the database. I work on the analytics team, which is a brand new product for Workfront so I get to constantly create features that our clients like Google, Delta, Disney, and many more will use on a daily basis. I have been working at Workfront for about a year now and I love what I do and I love my team I work with. I am on a small team of four developers creating a brand new product so it is very involved and exciting!
