“Meridian Mystery: Was Death a Suicide or Murder”

The article that is being analyzed is “Meridian Mystery: Was death a suicide…or murder” By: Kate Royals, Mississippi Today for March 2017. There are aspects of the article that I believe are executed very well and there are a couple things that I would critique. The aspects of the article that I thought made it excellent where the authentic photographs and the wording was simple which made it clear to understand. First, the photographs touched the reader’s hearts. I think what made it so touching was that they were home photos. What I mean by home photos is that a professional photographer didn’t capture them and Christian Andreacchio was presented in average/every day clothes which made him appear as the average kid next door. Secondly, the words in this article was simple and straightforward. I always despise when articles have big articulate words that you need to think about before continuing the sentence. So I appreciate the grammar and word choices in this read.

Two things that I would critique about this article is the structure and the ending. First, this article is not esthetically pleasing compared to the Medium articles that I have been reading. I think this is because the font was different and the photo placements were aligned differently. Secondly, I believe that the ending could have been executed better. Overall, I just wish it was more thought out. Due to this story being a mystery story there should have been more questions being asked to the reader while they are reading. Most of all, in mystery stories the last sentence should easily be one of the most memorable parts of the entire story because it leaves the reader with a lasting impression. I agree that it was smart to end with a quote but Kate Royals should of chose a more impactful quote.
