How to Celebrate Earth Day Every Day

Every year it becomes more evident that the climate is rapidly changing for the worse. Our impact on the earth has not exactly been a great one, but I still believe that we can help turn it around. We can all make individual changes in our life to create a positive impact. And these changes don’t have to hurt our wallets or take a lot of time.

Here is a list of ways you can make an impact:

It’s not only a great way to help reduce your carbon footprint, it’s also a great way to get a workout and some sunshine. Spending time outside definitely will help put you in a better mood than sitting in your car ever will!

Whether you’re backpacking through the backcountry trails or running through the neighborhood, make sure to pack in what you pack out. And, if you have room, it’s always helpful to pick up some trash along the way.

Get out your gloves, boots and trash bags! Many communities and local organizations hold fun events to pick up trash, plant trees and gardens and educate people about the importance of conservation and restoration. These events are a great way to network and make new friends who care about making a positive difference.

Eating locally-grown food has a big impact on the environment. Trucks drive long distances to bring food to supermarket shelves, whereas farmer’s markets stay within the community. It’s also a great way to support local businesses! Eating sustainably-sourced and organic foods is also much healthier for your diet and lifestyle.

This especially applies to plastics, which can take hundreds of years to break down. One way to make a big impact is to use re-usable products, such as cloth grocery bags, water bottles and steel straws. As well, make sure to recycle and compost when you can!
