Sometimes I Envy Ants and Beetles

Sometimes I envy the beetles and the ants. Evidence of their work is clear and definable. A legacy that’s easy to see.

More often than not, I wonder if I am shouting into a void–my voice, undetectable white noise.

But thankfully, there are days when I get to see and hear the traces of what I’ve tried to do. I witness the grooves my work has left in lives of others.

And I remember that ants and beetles don’t ever see their grooves. They just keep doing their work because it’s what they do. They would literally die otherwise. My work feeds my soul and keeps my bones alive. That matters.
