Rebuilding the Internet

I brought out the old Legos to build a representation of the chaos of the internet. It’s an outlet for all sorts of media and a hub of communication. At the center of this structure we have a couple…

How to Find Joy in the Little Things

It is all around us, all the time, and we don’t realize it.

We all know how the world can be a complicated, harsh, and challenging place. It is full of hardships, rules, disappointments, helpless hope, hatred, manipulation, and so on.

I will stop right there; otherwise, you will quickly think that life is not worth it. I don’t want to be the reason you are typing on Youtube “how to tie a slip knot.”

Don’t you worry, dear reader; this is not the purpose of this story.

From time to time, you have these moments that you enjoy, love, appreciate. No matter how big or small they are, they happen all the time. The problem is that you don’t always acknowledge and feel them when they occur. We are champions when it comes to talking about the bad moments happening in our life and, on the opposite, big losers when we have the opportunity to appreciate the good things.

You can probably hear yourself rehashing all the complaints you made when you went for a drink with your best friend.

I don’t think I need to give any examples; you know what I mean. We all do it consistently; it is a normal thing to do. But, surprisingly, we rarely enumerate a series of happy moments that we’ve had. Curious.

How come the negative stuff has more impact on our mind and our mood than the positive one? My first thought is that we like it when people feel bad for us. We love being seen as the victim in the story. Sometimes, it is a way to attract attention and also to detach ourselves from our responsibilities.

But, when I think about it a little bit deeper, I guess it is because most of us want to reach perfection in life. That pure moment of happiness where we can finally say to ourselves: “I’ve made it; this is it; it can’t get any better than that.” So we complain when something negative happens because we don’t accept anything that could disturb our plans.
