Books under 300 pages for when you're low on time

When I ask people why they don't read, one of their main reasons is that they don't have enough time. Too much work, too many assignments, too much to do — and not enough time. So, here are some of my favourite short reads for those who are busy individuals, for whoever trying to complete their reading goal for 2021, as the year is quickly advancing to its end.

A book about two migrant workers of two different dispositions, a story of love and agony. A tale of a true, triumphant friendship overcoming odds, judgment, and obscurity.

This book is excellent because not only is it under 200 pages, it manages to pack it with themes of friendship and loyalty, of pain and sorrow. Set in The Great Depression, the story also explores racism, discrimination, and the societal chasm between races. John Steinbeck is one of my favourite authors, and I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to begin to read his books — and to anyone wanting a good cry.

A book of truth, raw and sincere. The Bell Jar transports the reader into the realities of mental illness — the distortions and disconnections. We are inside the head of Esther Greenwood, the tragic protagonist of this novel.
