Every Day is Saturday When You are Retired!

My husband is having trouble understanding this

Good news! My husband has finally started his part-time job. He is running the pro-shop at the local Air Force Base golf course. He gets to eat lunch right there at the snack bar with our son, the assistant golf superintendent.

So, today he came home with his new schedule. It’s varied and will require him to work some weekends. Naturally, he was concerned about this.

“What if we want to make plans?” he says.

“What plans?” I counter. “We haven’t made any plans in two years.”

Also, I had to remind him that every day is Saturday now. So if we want to go out of town or do something, we can go during the week!

We are not tied down to only doing stuff on the weekends. It’s why they call it “retirement!”

I admit I remember how it took me some time to get used to the idea of being retired. But when I retired, we were still following a typical weekly schedule because of my husband’s job and my kids’ school.

My husband doesn’t have this problem. One kid is grown, and the other kid graduates in two months. But he still has a big adjustment to make. Instead of working full-time, he will now be working part-time. Instead of having a lot of stress and responsibilities, he can now work in a stress-free environment. I don’t think that some senior-aged golfer will threaten him because they didn’t get the golf cart they wanted. He can go to work, do his job, shoot the breeze, have lunch, and come home.

I’m a little jealous. I miss talking to people. I bet if I worked there, all of those retired golfers would come in and talk to me. But they would have to find a subject that’s not about golf. I’ve never played!

I’m not sure that he’s completely given up the idea of working in the safety and environmental field. I’m trying to talk him into setting up his own website to work as a consultant. He can even take his laptop to work.

The sky’s the limit. I’m trying to get him to see that!

Lots of seniors start businesses after they retire!

Meanwhile, he will have time to play golf and work in a stress-free environment.

My fingers are crossed!
