Dark Mind

StoryFire is a web and mobile app that is dedicated to storytelling, which can be in the form of written stories and videos. Most videos on the platform are released episodically, and written stories can be published one chapter at a time. It’s a platform all about creativity and allows for different mediums of storytelling, with new ways being introduced to the platform in the future, such as audiobooks and graphic novels.

While the mobile app is fully functional, the website is still in beta and currently doesn’t have as many of the features that the app has. This is due to the developers choosing to flesh out the app first, as most users tend to view content on their phones.

Dark Mind is a seven part web series released episodically on the platform. It is a psychological thriller about a unstable young man who develops an unhealthy obsession with a young girl. There is a voice in his head trying to tell him to do awful things and it eventually becomes hard for him to determine what is real and what is not.

This project is still ongoing and is produced by myself and directed by Damian Unitt, which also stars ourselves as James Brooks (the leading role) and Ashleigh Walker.

Before Dark Mind came to the platform, it had to go through a series of applications. The story first needed to be pitched to the team at StoryFire and a trailer was sent over to them. After it was reviewed, Damian Unitt was then messaged directly with one of the founders wanting to see the first episode of Dark Mind. Upon showing them the opening to the show, they were very impressed and we were given the green light to release the show.

The show began with its first episode release way back in December of last year (2018). The first episode received a lot of praise from the founders of StoryFire when they mentioned that it was good enough to receive rewards and this was perfect for StoryFire.

Since it’s premiere, the episodes have been released gradually every 2 – 3 months. This is due to the time it takes to write, shoot and edit each episode. Episode tends to take at least two weeks to write. Filming can take anywhere between a month or two to shoot, whilst editing is normally another two weeks minimum. Luckily, we aren’t obligated to stick to a strict schedule for the show, which is why we prefer to take our time and often reshoot scenes many times until we are completely satisfied.

Dark Mind has since hit the Top Series category on the platform, pinning it onto the homepage of the mobile app. There is currently no date of when the show will officially end, but it will certainly be sometime in 2020.
